Molex Technology Makes Keypad Backlighting on Curved Surfaces a Reality

Hong Kong, China, May 26, 2017 /ChinaNewswire.com/ - Molex has solved the challenge of backlighting capacitive keys on a curved surface for user-interface designers. Molex PEDOT Clear Conductive Sensors are flexible translucent conductive circuits printed on a polyester substrate that can be implemented on three-dimensional surfaces, allowing for more elaborate designs and greater design freedom. Translucent PEDOT sensors can be used in space-restricted applications where previous methods of backlighting (light guide film or side fire LEDs) are impractical.

“OEMs want to design contemporary backlit capacitive interfaces while retaining the design freedom to bring their visions to life,” said Greg Kuchuris, global product manager, Molex. “PEDOT sensors make the high-end look of backlit keys a possibility for designers in more applications than ever before.”

Historically, designers have relied on indium tin oxide (ITO) which is considered too brittle and inflexible to be used on curved surfaces. PEDOT sensors having been shown to endure 50,000+ bend cycles, and offer a more cost effective solution. The ability to use standard pressure sensitive adhesive for mounting also contributes to a lower overall applied cost.

Capable of both touch-sensing and proximity-sensing actuation, PEDOT Clear Conductive Sensors can meet a broad range of design needs and are intended for any OEM seeking to design capacitive user interfaces with backlit keys.

With the automotive human-machine interface (HMI) market projected to grow at a CAGR of 11.93% through 2021, according to a March 2017 Research and Markets report*, PEDOT sensors can be a key tool for automotive interior designers. Other potential applications include home appliance controls and connected-home thermostats.

New Ads and Digital Content Demonstrate How CA’s Software Helps Customers Build Their Modern Software Factory to Create Competitive Advantage

CA Technologies (NASDAQ: CA) today launched a new global marketing campaign, “The Modern Software Factory,” to showcase the full spectrum of capability CA brings to customers navigating the challenges of digital transformation.

Businesses today face near constant digital disruption, affecting business decision makers at all levels from the C-Suite to those deploying software across their organizations. The Modern Software Factory campaign reflects their insights on the challenges to ‘build better apps, faster and securely’ and ‘gain insight from data,’ which have become foundational to competing in today’s application economy. The premise of the campaign is simple: as businesses across all industries recognize that software is core to creating competitive advantage, CA shows how they can start with a single CA Solution, or a combination of solutions across the areas of Agile, DevOps and Security.

In the book “Digitally Remastered: Building Software into Your Business DNA” launched last fall, author Otto Berkes, CTO of CA Technologies, outlines key insights that inform the tools and techniques that companies are using on their digital transformation journeys. The Modern Software Factory, a concept portrayed through a virtual environment, brings these insights to life.
“The competitive value of digital transformation has become very real, and customers are looking for partners who can help them navigate the journey successfully,” said Lauren Flaherty, chief marketing officer, CA Technologies. “The Modern Software Factory is the creative expression of CA’s business strategy. We’re laying out a blueprint that’s designed to help guide customers as they leverage software to win in the market.”

The new campaign, running immediately across broadcast and digital channels to reach executives as well as those who deploy software, brings The Modern Software Factory to life as it follows a group of executives looking to transform their business. They are guided through a dynamic, visionary space and shown how CA’s capabilities across Agility, Insights, Automation and Security come together to help them compete.

#8226; The Tour: The guide introduces The Modern Software Factory to a group of executives. They see the wonders of the factory—a world where Agile, Automation, Insights and Security come together to help businesses compete.
#8226; The Answer: The executives realize the power of the software factory and yet have a hard time understanding its technical aspects. The guide makes it simple: if you’re going to compete in the app economy, the answer is CA Technologies.

The new broadcast spots and digital content, created and produced by John McNeil Studio, demonstrate how CA’s portfolio comes together to create advantage for customers, solve their most pressing needs, and become strategic partners in their digital transformation journeys.

The campaign will span the US, UK, DE, AU Pan Regional (ES) markets, and content will be amplified across CA social channels and CA.com.

Molex Collaborates with MB Connect Line to Offer Remote Access Capabilities

Hong Kong, China, May 25, 2017 /ChinaNewswire.com/ - Molex, together with MB Connect Line GmbH, an expert in remote maintenance solutions, has introduced a secure and reliable cloud-based communication channel that allows remote access and monitoring. With data transparency becoming increasingly important, this platform adds communications and networking to the production process, offering machine and system builders’ capabilities designed to enable real-time condition monitoring and predictive maintenance, supporting the drive towards smarter machines and factories.

As Industry 4.0 seeks to improve efficiency, increase flexibility and accelerate time-to-market, enabled through integration of smart devices and the Internet of Things (IoT), one example of this in action is maximising system availability through remote condition monitoring and predictive maintenance. This allows machine and system builders to deliver added value to manufacturing customers and re-think their traditional business models.

A key component of this solution, industrially hardened and secured routers deliver versatile internet access – via either Ethernet WAN or WiFi – to enable remote set-up, configuration, diagnostic monitoring and maintenance of machines installed anywhere. With built-in NAT firewall, VPN connection, SSL encryption and two-factor authentication functionality, this solution provides both seamless integration with the customer’s network and remote machine access in a strongly cyber-secured manner.

“These routers offer the most cyber-secured solution designed for industrial automation applications,” says Thierry Bieber, business development manager, Molex. “And setup and cyber-security has been designed to be managed by industrial automation personnel, not IT engineers.”

Access is gained through the mbCONNECT24 Remote Services Portal (RSP), providing a means to easily manage the installed machine base across the globe. Enhanced control of roles and access credentials for users and machines also allows manufacturers to benefit remotely from the expertise and competencies of specialist internal and external personnel, without compromising the security of the entire application. Available as a cloud-based public version for rapid start-up, or as private version (hosted on the customer’s own servers) for enhanced data control, mbCONNECT24 is a versatile platform for IIoT (Industrial IoT) and Industry 4.0 applications.

For more information about remote access solutions from Molex and MB Connect Line, please visit www.molex.com.

SCAD and MTR Announce Collaboration on Major “Art in MTR” Project Preview Exhibition at MTR Central Station

Hong Kong, China, May 25, 2017 /ChinaNewswire.com/ - The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and MTR Corporation kicked off an exhibition in MTR Central Station to celebrate the transformative designs created by SCAD students to help rejuvenate MTR Sham Shui Po Station. SCAD x MTR Art in MTR Sham Shui Po Station Project exhibition will run from 24 May to 30 June 2017 in Exit J of MTR Central Station, and will showcase an inspiring exhibition of works by some of the brightest young creative minds in Hong Kong.

SCAD was approached by MTR with a design challenge to rejuvenate MTR Sham Shui Po station, focusing on the user experience and increasing the engagement between the station and the community. Among seven works submitted by fourteen students, MTR selected works from two proposals for inclusion in the final design for the rejuvenation project.

“SCAD x MTR Art in MTR Sham Shui Po Station Project is an exhibition that showcases the creativity and talent of the student proposals selected for realisation. All 14 students presented their own interpretations of Sham Shui Po in such a creative way. I was impressed by the high standard of work and professionalism the students demonstrated over the course of five weeks. The exhibition in Central Station serves as a preview of the extraordinary designs by the students. We are excited that we will be unveiling the results of this collaboration to the public in Sham Shui Po Station later this year and we look forward to working with SCAD students in the future,” said Mr Andrew Mead, Chief Architect (ARBUK), MTR Corporation.

Student Nicholas Wang, whose work is among two selected proposals, said of the project, “MTR stations reflect the unique local communities around them, and offer connections between different corners of the city. During the design stage, we could make use of our multicultural backgrounds and multi-disciplinary education to create compelling designs where functionality is a priority, while keeping the charm of the surrounding area in our concepts. Our designs examine how the built environment can influence human experience and behaviour, and are carefully adapted to the nature of a busy transport hub. The collaboration was significant, not only because we received insights into the realities of our profession, but also because we were able to provide a positive tangible contribution to our local community.”

MTR Corporation has used art to enhance their stations and the life journeys of customers since 1998, utilising spaces to inspire the local and visiting public, contributing to the development of communities, enhancing quality of life, and fostering a thriving business and living environment. Through the Art in MTR programme under the Community Connect platform, the Sham Shui Po Station Project exhibition at Exit J in MTR Central Station highlights the pride SCAD and their students take in being part of the larger Hong Kong and Sham Shui Po communities, and aims to entertain while educating the audience on this collaborative project.

Zscaler Reveals Insights from the World’s Largest Cloud Security Platform at Cloud Expo Asia conference in Hong Kong

Hong Kong, China, May 24, 2017 /ChinaNewswire.com/ - More than 5,000 organizations are escaping legacy security appliance overload with Zscaler

According to Zscaler?, Inc., the leading cloud security company, as the volume of encrypted internet traffic heads inexorably towards the 100% mark, organizations using on-premises architectures will not be able to meet the challenge using legacy appliances to inspect traffic and protect their networks.

Scott Robertson, Vice President Asia Pacific and Japan for the cloud security pioneer Zscaler?, Inc., who is speaking at the Cloud Expo Asia conference on Thursday 25 May, warns that businesses have a short time to meet the challenge or face digital extinction.

“Using appliances to meet the ever-increasing need to inspect encrypted traffic is costly, complex, and completely unsustainable. Legacy hardware approaches simply cannot keep up with the volume, and so organizations are turning to cloud solutions to provide the global scale and coverage they require,” said Robertson.

Gartner estimates that by 2020, more than 60% of organizations will fail to decrypt HTTPS efficiently, missing most targeted web malware, and a staggering 99% of vulnerabilities exploited will be ones security and IT professionals have known about for at least a year.

Zscaler’s? cloud security platform is an industry-recognized solution, architected from the ground up as part of a multi-tenant, distributed cloud security platform for the new, cloud-centric world of IT. SSL inspection is built into the platform, which currently inspects over 30 billion internet transactions a day across 100 data centers around the world.

Zscaler's security cloud also protects against advanced threats with a cloud sandbox analyzing unknown files for malicious behavior. Delivery from the cloud means all users, regardless of location, get protection without cumbersome VPNs or Data Center backhaul links.nbsp; In addition, when Zscaler detects a threat for any of its millions of users, it blocks it at once and protects everyone.

“As well as being inherently scalable, another advantage of a cloud-based security solution like Zscaler is that there is no hardware or software to purchase and manage. Companies simply point their Internet-bound traffic to Zscaler, and it instantly begins inspecting every byte of traffic – all bytes, all ports, and all protocols, including SSL, for all users,” he said.

“What’s more, because it’s built on a vast, global platform, there is no performance penalty. In a very real way, embracing cloud security can mean the difference between long-term success of dying out like the dinosaurs who were unable to adapt to a rapidly changing environment,” Robertson added.

“Organizations first want visibility,” said Robertson. “They want to see a global view of traffic, threats, users, and applications in their organization. With appliances, the onus is on the IT team to cobble together that visibility. With Zscaler, we give you that global view from day one. To demonstrate that, we’re sharing an unprecedented look inside makeup of the more than 30 billion transactions we protect daily.”

Robertson will examine the aggregated data through several lenses to explore topics like traffic patterns in various geographies, types of malware and threats that target specific vertical industries, and risks associated with specific applications.

“Cloud security delivers all the services an enterprise needs — antivirus, firewalls, sandboxes, URL filters, SSL inspection, and the rest — in a unified platform service from the cloud. It’s airtight security without the cost and complexity of stacks of appliances. Because the security cloud is everywhere, positioned between every user and the Internet, it closes security gaps created by mobility and BYOD,” he said.

Don’t miss Robertson’s Cloud Expo Asia conference talk, entitled “How Secure Are You? Insights from 30 Billion Transactions a Day,” at 13:30 – 13:55 on Thursday 25 May in the Cloud Security, Compliance amp; Regulation Theatre.

Meet the Zscaler team at BOOTH C30 at the Cloud Asia Expo to learn more about the changing network transformation landscape as traditional network perimeters around corporate assets disappear.

Hong Kong Workers Waste More Than 50 Hours Per Year Setting Up Meetings

Hong Kong, China, May 23, 2017 /ChinaNewswire.com/ - ShoreTel (NASDAQ: SHOR), a leading provider of communication solutions that make interactions simple, today shared the results of a recent survey which revealed that Hong Kong workers waste massive amounts of time and energy just setting up virtual meetings as a result of technologies that are unintuitive, overly complex or outdated.

ShoreTel’s Build a Better Meeting survey, which canvassed the meeting habits and productivity preferences of nearly 500 respondents in Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia, found that the average Hong Kong executive wastes over 50 working hours just managing the logistics of setting up meetings. Even for those who manage to enter a meeting, productivity levels remain low, with the majority admitting they are often distracted by something other than the task at hand.

“In supposedly tech-savvy Hong Kong, nearly a third (30%) of respondents reported spending 11 to 15 minutes struggling to set up their meeting technology, and 10% spent even longer,” said Frdric Gillant, vice president and managing director, Asia Pacific for ShoreTel. “Over the course of weeks and months, that adds up to a huge amount of time that could be spent more productively on things like discussing key business challenges and finding solutions.”

Bandwidth issues and Internet problems (39%), combined with unclear or missing details on local dial-ins or access points (26%) were the main barriers preventing Hong Kong firms from getting the most out of meeting technology. Additionally, 16% cited outdated technology as a challenge.

While communication technologies are transforming the workplace and the ways in which we interact with each other, Gillant notes that not every solution is simple to implement or easy for people to use. What’s more, trying to use a host of standalone communication tools presents additional problems for IT teams and users.

“A good unified communications (UC) system takes the best features of each technology – IP phones, conferencing, video, digital document sharing, chat and mobility – and combines them in a single solution that enables individuals to collaborate seamlessly wherever they are and using whichever channel is the most convenient and effective,” said Gillant. “This makes meetings easier to set up and virtual interactions more natural, which increases productivity and greatly streamlines workflows.”

Lack of agenda adds insult to injury

The overwhelming majority of local respondents – almost 75% – infrequently prepared an agenda ahead of the event. Hong Kongers were significantly less well organised than respondents in Singapore, where far more (42%) claimed that they always prepare an agenda before a meeting, and Australia, where the majority of people (54%) always prepare one.

“Meetings without an agenda are like road trips without GPS or a map – unless you are very lucky, you are going to spend ages going in circles and never get anywhere,” said Gillant.

According to Gillant, laying out an agenda and distributing it ahead of time is an easy way to boost meeting productivity. Even more effective is to use productivity tools, such as agenda planners, that are built into leading UC solutions. Agendas don’t need to be long, but they should outline the topics to be covered, the anticipated goals, required attendees, any materials needed, and a start and stop time.

Unproductive meetings mean easily distracted participants

When asked to rate how productive they think their meetings are on a scale of 1 to 4 (1 = not productive; 4 = very productive), Hong Kongers scored their sessions at 2.66 – the lowest among all the markets surveyed. Over a third (37%) of Hong Kong respondents felt their meetings were either only slightly productive or completely unproductive. Only 11% graded their meetings as very productive, compared with 26% in Australia and 29% in Singapore.

In addition, less than half (41%) of Hong Kongers admitted to fully participating in meetings, with nearly a third (30%) of them citing that they are routinely side-tracked by dealing with other work at the same time. Hong Kong workers also appear to be the most easily distracted by private matters, with 16% admitting to checking personal emails, social media or texting during in meetings.

“Many Hong Kong companies are losing a great deal of time to unproductive meetings, however there are plenty of opportunities to eliminate inefficiency,” said Gillant. “Easy, modern unified communications technology and thoughtful meeting preparation are the keys to building better, more productive meetings that all attendees will find valuable.”
